Our Pastor

Pastor Booker was born on July 2nd , 1964, to the late James and Jeanne Williams Booker in New York City. He was also educated in New York and received his BA in English at Queens College in 1987.

In 1983, he surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and joined Metropolitan AME Church in 1983. In 1985, he was baptized in the Holy Spirit, and joined Salvation and Deliverance Church under the leadership of Bishop William Brown. In 1987 he met the lovely Crystal Wilson at the church, and they were married on July 9th, 1988. In 1989, he was appointed the worldwide Youth President of the Salvation and Deliverance Churches.

In 1990, he and Crystal became the proud parent of Ashley E. Booker, who is now a rising star in the advertising world and has answered God’s call to preach.
In the same year, he and Sister Crystal joined St. Stephen Community AME Church under the leadership of Pastor Edward E. Smart. In 1991, the late Pastor Kenneth W. Newkirk was appointed to St. Stephen and would become Pastor Booker’s spiritual father.

In 1992, he received his M.Div. from New York Theological Seminary, where he was a Benjamin E. Mays Scholar for the 1990-91 and the 1991-92 school years. Crystal and he also became the proud parents of Michael Christopher Booker, who is now a gifted singer and musician and a skilled banker. In 1995, he received his first pastoral appointment from Senior Bishop Philip R. Cousin to Allen Temple AME Church where he pastored for 6 years, and in 1996, he was ordained an itinerant Elder. In 2001, he was appointed to St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church and in 2014 received his 13th appointment to St.John from Bishop Gregory G. M. Ingram at the close of the 192nd Session of the New York Annual Conference where he was able to report 41 conversions and 42 accessions for the 2013-14 conference year. On July 10th, 2020, at the 198th Session of the NY Annual Conference, Reverend Booker was appointed Pastor of Bethany AME Church, Yonkers, NY, June 18th, 2022, Pastor Booker was appointed by Bishop Julius H. McAllister, Sr. to Mount Carmel AME Church in New Rochelle, NY, and then on June 24th, 2024 was appointed as pastor of Calvary AME Church, Glen Cove, NY.

Pastor Booker, who started preaching on the streets, parks and subway cars of New York City, has a passionate burden for souls and burning desire to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and is known for making invitations to salvation even at home-going services, believing that after the Gospel has been preached, the preacher must allow the hearers to respond.

Booker is a current member of the Board of Examiners of the New York Annual Conference and is a teacher at its Ministerial Training institute. Pastor Booker is also a lifetime member of the NAACP, board member of the Harlem Interfaith Commission for Housing Equality, and was a board member of the Interfaith Coalition New Rochelle.
